My first crack at a 3D game, enjoy Zombie Runner

    so like the titel says this is my first crack at a FPS just minus the shooting as not had chance to add that yet or the end state or indeed the death side, whats in there at the moment tho is a world made by myself and evil killer zombie dogs (you can thank 13 for it not being evil killing gray cubes!) and the chance to watch a heli fly by if you stay alive long enough, so let me know what you think and STAY out of the water as you wont be getting out if you do!     Cool little game.
    Managed to get away from the dog that was chasing me. Found a nice empty plain for an heli to come pick me up and rescue me. Deployed my last flare and radioed HQ. With the heli underway I dug in and awaited nightfall. Just on the horizon I could see the unmoving silhouette of one of the hellhounds that was chasing me earlier. Poor thing must've been blind. deaf and upwind from me, cause it didn't notice me, the flare, or my frantic screaming at HQ to get a heli to my position ASAP.

    As the sun was about to dip beneath the horizon, with still no heli in sight, I laid down under the a tree in the fetal position and cried myself to sleep stood my ground heroically, unwavering against the demons hiding in the black of night.

    A few minutes later the sun touched the horizon. And then it continued going down... and down... and down. I truly must have died and been taken to some mystical afterlife, because the sun stayed visible for the entirety of the night. Sidenote: is it still night if you can still see the sun? Anyway, eventually the sun rose above the horizon on the opposite side of the world of where it had gone down.

    The helicopter still hasn't made it to my position. I'd go scavenging for food but I'm afraid of coming across another one of those beasts.

    Pls send help.

    so for the super long wait (for anyone keeping track) Version 5 is here and finished and i have to say i am very happy with how its ended and really enjoyed making this one, i do ask of you guys that before you play this final patch of the game take a moment to reply the first one (V1) and then try out this one and see just how far it has come. Also want to say a big thank you for my awesome play testers and of course the man himself :xIII who without his awesome help this game wouldnt be more then just a flat land with a sun that never seems to set :D

    I took the path to make this final cut into a standalone for many reasons but mainly because it would use alot of your browser RAM and would make the game very laggy, this way i was able to add a lot more content and still keep the game easy to get and play!

    I hope you enjoy playing this as much as i have in making it!

    P.S please take note of the F1 at the start of the game as it will give you a list of buttons and what they do oh and you do start with flashlight and sidearm so just use your mousewheel

    P.P.S The heli will come to save you just hold out in the town until it does!! Good luck!!!!

    Well done my friend I enjoyed playing it :) a few bugs but hey you're not making star citizen lol.

    The zed's kept resetting the time for the chopper for me so I had to wait until all 50 were below the helipad.

    Apart from that pretty decent 7/10

    :)

    Next project we will work on your art skills a bit more hehe

    Thanks for taking the time to check it out and for the input, made a few changes to the code so that the time wont restart everytime a zombie is killed oh and they can now go up the helipad ramp so no more hiding :p looking forward to seeing what others make of this as well! Uploading the new copy now so will replace the link above in case you wanted to try your hand at it again!

    Hey Anthony, I just downloaded your game and had a little play. I love what you have done with this. Hopefully one day will be able to produce something similar. I am only just working through 2d games, so thought it was quite a bit download as I was expecting a 2d game. Anyway you have asked for feedback so here goes, please don't take any of this as negative though as I am really impressed, just my initial thoughts.

    1. The main model shows him holding an assault rifle. So it took me a while to realise you had to press 1 to equip your knife or 2 to draw your pistol. I was wondering why I couldn't fire. Might be nice to either equip the knife/pistol automatically, and perhaps not show the assault rifle equipped (unless it actually is) in third person mode.

    2. The graphics looked good at night, but come the daylight everything seemed a bit washed out especially looking towards the coast. Not sure if you can do anything about this, it could be down to the graphics packs you are using? That said I would love to know where you got these / how you created these.

    3. I was not sure what to do / where to go. I travelled to the flashing light once I spotted it and my first zombie encounter but after that ran around aimlessly until I came across a cluster of buildings and a horde of Zombies. I died there, the horde seemed endless ( is it?) But perhaps some sort of mission briefing/quest log or objective points would really help people understand what they are meant to be doing.

    4. Tied into point 3 perhaps a compass or some sort of map people could open out.

    All in all I think what you have done so far is fantastic. Well done. If you want further critique in the future let me know. Feel free to PM me.

    Thank you both for trying out this game for me, being hoping someone would for the past week so just nice someone has taken the time to check it out so again thanks. Ian your feedback is very welcome and its the only way i can improve on what my skills are so i will take all with a smile on my face, would like to point out that the main model is a little broken in 3rd person as the player did start with a M4 but i took it away as was a little OP to being with, there should of been a hint at the top of the screen when you start playing saying press f1 for a list of controls so if you could just check that again and see if its there would be awesome but ok if not. With that you can use your scrollwheel to cycle weapons as you also start with a flashlight :D The reason its a little washed out was due to the fact i was aiming for a creepy fog which i thought might help with the feeling of dread on the island tho i was hoping the player would of found the town and called for the Evac from the coms tower on the helipad (just walk into the room and up to the radio) that would trigger the Heli to fly in and pick you up after 5 mins of trying to live out the never ending waves of zombies, there are weapons and ammo all over the town (inculding a sword at the tower you found). I was working on a map for the island but was hoping the audio prompts would be enough, i am guessing however that the audio at the start (the inner voice) didnt play as it tells you that your lost and need to call for help and should look for something that might help, i also had an AI guy under attack further up the road that would then promt you towards the flashing light of the tower and then on the road to the town (which should be sign posted), you then enter the town and have wave after wave come at you. Oh and one thing i would say you need to try if you fancy trying to complete the game is bullet time (Press T) as its very funny having 30+ zombies in slowmo flying every which way when your throw a live grenade in the middle of them, ragdoll is funny as anything so left it in there!

    Again thanks so much for the time you took to try this out and also give me some feedback and i hope that Travis also maybe missed the town and the radio call for help as that was the whole conspect of my game and felt that was enough tho if you did by chance find it and made it out then please let me know and i will try and put some more in there.

    you are most welcome. I tried it again and did get a message in the top left saying to press F1 to get a list of controls. The inner voice at the start did not however play for me. In fact one thing I noticed (not sure if this is intentional) is that the music does not kick in until you reach the town area. I did however get an audio prompt about the helicopter being inbound once I approached the radio in the building near the helipad.

    I also never managed to find AI guy up the road, although I did encounter 2 zombies wandering around the wilderness. Something to bear in mind, is that as a developer we often know where to go and what actions to perform in order to test our programs/games. However invariably someone else will do something differently and circumvent triggers. So if there are triggers or actions you want to drive home or that are important for the player to know it is sometimes best to simply railroad them into it before giving them the ability to roam freely. For instance, the game could load and the player in the flickering flames of the downed copter could be looking directly at the scene of a zombie attacking a person (another copter survivor/Islander investigating the wreck) the zombie turns and advances towards the player, as you flash up left click to swing your knife/scroll wheel to select weapon) with the zombie dead the player approaches the body it was initially attacking.. and you provide the audio prompt, of head to the flashing light tower, or perhaps we can call for help from the helipad back in town to the south (or wherever) the player then has complete freedom to explore the island, but also has two very distinct clues as to things to do/explore.

    I did try bullet time, and it is quite funny, although I never had a grenade to launch at them. I was just doing a quick play to check the audio and F1 message at the start. I did then run to the town, relying on my trusty knife to keep me alive. It was doing a great job and the copter was on its way. Until I got a bit 'cocky'

    Well actually it was doing a good job because of a peculiar pathing issue. Basically I ran onto the ramp of the helipad, but seemed to confuse the zombie horde, as basically they squared off against each other at the bottom of the ramp with those that came from outside the building walking into those coming out of the building, clogging up the whole bottom of the ramp with none of them coming up it. I had a mass of zombies just bumping into each other. I could have easily just sat there until the copter came but decided to poke a few with my knife for fun..

    Anyway hope that helps some, keep up the good work

    I arrived on an island during the night and heard gunshots close by. I found some zombies shredding a survivor apart not too far from where I arrived. Luckily I was able to kill them once they killed the survivor (I needed his gun, I could have helped sooner but.. that's life).

    I picked up his weapon and headed inland, following the only source of light I could see - some sort of lighthouse.
    Once at the lighthouse, I was lucky enough to find a couple of grenades stashed in the old building, killing the two zombies occupying it.

    Then, in the distance, I saw another light source. This time not an artificial one, a fire. I followed the path that seemed to be leading towards the fire and saw a sign pointing me to a helipad. 'This is my way out.' - I thought.
    I arrived at a small town with a couple of buildings but before I got the time to examine them closely, small groups of zombies started forming and coming towards me. I killed a couple before entering the largest building I found. No loot.

    The first zombies were already coming through the only door, I had to get out quick.
    I went berserk and started emptying my magazines into the heads of people that once were. I fought my way out of the building when I noticed my magazines were empty. While running around to avoid the zombies, I found the helipad with the comms equipment next to it. I immediately called for help.

    At this moment, a horde of around 25 zombies were packed closely together, coming for my brains. I threw a grenade into the horde and watched chaos ensue. The grenade killed roughly half of them. A second one finished them off. Now I was clear to find more ammo. Passing by some garages, I found an AK and a fuckton of rounds.

    Kiting the zombies while shooting them in the head one by one, the helicopter arrived. As quickly as I could I got onto the helipad and jumped into the chopper. I would finally be able to see my family again.

    Love the game. Headshots should do some more damage though ;)
    Other than that and the main menu confusing me, awesome stuff! Keep it up!

    Thanks for the very entertaining review buddy! Working on a better menu system plus a loading screen with some hints and tips on things so should help other players, glad you enjoyed it!!!
